Education About Watersheds Protects Urban Lakes
The Omaha Metro Area Lakes were built primarily for flood control but their use for recreational activities has increased as the population has increased. These valuable metro lakes are impaired due to sediment and nutrient runoff pollution. Rainfall, melting snow and excess runoff water from our homes and streets carry sediment and other pollutants into storm drains. Cooperative Extension serves as the catalyst to coordinate a joint educational effort by federal, state, district and local entities involved with storm water management in Omaha. MORE (.pdf file) |
